Christmas Dance Evening
Hosted by: Tutors Lori Newman and Jordan Cervantes, along with their Dancing Through Time students and apprentice assistant Amy Woolsey
Who’s Invited: CHEAR member families and their guests
Join us for a joyful evening of traditional group dances—a delightful celebration of movement, music, and community!
Whether you’re brand new or experienced, everyone is welcome. If you can simply walk and count, you already have the tools for success.
Mrs. Newman will:
-
Explain each dance’s moves and patterns before the music begins
-
Walk everyone through a practice round or two
-
Continue to prompt and guide dancers as the songs play
If you have experience with English Country or historical social dances, we’d love for you to help lead the way! Your participation provides great examples for others and helps new dancers catch on quickly.
This is also a wonderful opportunity for former Dancing Through Time students to return, reconnect with old friends, and relive favorite dances while meeting new ones.
Whether it’s your first or fiftieth time dancing, remember—it’s not about perfection! It’s about fun, connection, and celebrating the joy of Christmas.
Participation Guidelines for Students
For school-age children, there is no strict minimum age for participation. However, most children ages 8–10 and up tend to enjoy and succeed with these dances if they are able to:
-
Listen attentively and stay focused on directions.
-
Follow repeated steps and changing partners throughout a full-length tune (which may last 10–20 minutes).
Attire
We want this to be a spectacular event, so attire that reflects the season and celebration is encouraged!
-
Ladies—feel free to wear your party frocks, gowns, and Christmas sparkles.
-
Gentlemen—come dressed dapper and festive!
While “fancy” is recommended, it’s not required. Comfort and safety should always come first.
Please Note: Safety First
The point of this event is—to dance!
You should be able to walk, turn, and change direction safely without risk of injury.
Please avoid:
-
Hats or scarves that may slip or obstruct vision
-
Hoop skirts, long gown trains, or oversized costumes
-
Nine-inch heels or steel-toe boots
-
Loose bracelets or large rings
Choose comfortable, secure footwear suitable for several hours of light to moderate movement.
Refreshments
Light refreshments will be served, but this is not a dinner event.
Please come fed and fueled for several hours of dancing and moderate exercise! Snacks and beverages will be available to keep your energy up throughout the night.
Location
The event will take place on the Church360 campus (a large facility).
Exact room and parking details will be announced soon!
